10 years ago, it was hard to believe that colleges and universities would offer something as innovative as courses on blockchain and digital currencies. Yet this has become our reality.
With the rising interest of students, the world’s top higher education institutions are now offering more and more courses around blockchain and cryptocurrencies to meet the growing market demand.
What are the world’s top universities that have students flocking to cryptocurrency and blockchain classes?
Among the world’s best ones, you will find Stanford University, Harvard University, and New York University in the US; the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in Switzerland; Cyprus’ University of Nicosia in Cyprus; the University of Cumbria in the UK; and the IT University of Copenhagen in Denmark.
Did you know that it was the University of Nicosia in Cyprus to offer the world’s first MSc in Digital Currency?
The University of Edinburgh also joined a list of educational institutions that are including courses on blockchain technology in their curriculum.
It seems that the US offers the most schooling opportunities for those who live and breathe cryptos, looking to establish a career in the blockchain industry.
At Johns Hopkins University, you can take a business course on blockchain that teaches students about its security features and, according to the course catalog, “the potential benefits and weaknesses of its fundamental structure as applied to businesses and organizations”.
Princeton offers you an information-security class with an emphasis on secure computing systems, cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and related issues.
Cornell beats its competitors, offering the highest number of classes on cryptography, cryptocurrency, or blockchain – a total of 28 courses – including “Anthropology of Money” and “Introduction to Blockchains, Cryptocurrencies, and Smart Contracts”.
Other leading universities that have added post secondary education courses and programs focused on blockchain include The University of Waterloo in Canada as well as Georgetown University and the University of Illinois in the US.
Sure, not everyone can afford moving to the US to pursue blockchain school education, but, hey, the good news is that The London School of Economics recently started offering a six-week online course on cryptocurrencies called “Cryptocurrency Investment and Disruption”.
Blockchain has even managed to go down under if you know what we mean. This year, the Melbourne-based public research university RMIT launched the country’s first dedicated online course on blockchain technology.
Believe it or not, but several universities accept Bitcoin as a payment method. For instance, the students of the University of Cumbria can pay for two certificate programs and specific PhD fees with Bitcoin. Should we even mention the University of Nicosia in Cyprus? This one is all about Bitcoin, including tuition fees!
There’ve been a lot of exciting speculations circulating in the news. Earlier this year, it was announced that a group of Oxford professors are seeking full-degree granting powers in the EU to open the world’s first blockchain university.
In addition to higher education, there are massive opportunities to study cryptocurrency and blockchain online at your own pace. Some of the courses are totally free!
Among the renowned providers of online courses, you’ll find Udemy, Coursera, and B9lab.
